The rules, in about sixty seconds

Set a timer for three minutes and write down every word you can trace on the grid. Letters have to touch: side by side, stacked, or corner to corner, and the path can turn as often as you like. No cube may be used twice in the same word, so a word with two Ns needs two N cubes on the board. Words must be at least three letters. Proper nouns are out. The Qu cube counts as two letters when you score it, which is why QUIT only needs three cubes.

Scoring runs 1 point for three and four letters, 2 for five, 3 for six, 5 for seven, and 11 for anything eight letters or longer. Playing with other people, everyone reads their list aloud and any word that more than one player found is crossed off every list. That rule is the whole strategy of the game: the eight-letter word nobody else spotted is worth more than a dozen safe three-letter words. How the generator works

Every board here is a real shake, not a random pile of letters. The tool takes the sixteen dice from a modern Boggle set, shuffles which cell each one lands in, then reads one of its six faces. That matters because the dice are not interchangeable: only one of them carries a Q, and a handful carry all the awkward letters. Roll enough boards and you meet the consequences, which we wrote about in the words the dice can never spell.

New board rolls a fresh one. Today's board gives everyone the same grid for the day, dated in Pacific time so a board does not change under you at midnight somewhere else. Print puts the grid large at the top of a page with three columns of ruled lines underneath and the scoring table in the corner, so one sheet per player is all the setup a game needs. If the answers are open when you print, they come out on a second page as a key.

The share link carries a seed, the short code under the board. The seed is the only input to the shake, so anyone who opens that link sees the same sixteen letters in the same places. Print a stack of copies, or send the link to a friend in another city and compare lists afterwards.

Everyday words and obscure ones

Reveal the answers and you get the everyday list by default: about 20,506 words that a person might reasonably be expected to know. Turn on obscure words and the tool opens up the full Logic Loft dictionary, 186,602 entries, which is the same word list our own games are built on. That is where the score jumps, and where you find out that the grid was hiding six words you would lose an argument over. Both lists drop anything with a Q that is not followed by a U, because no Boggle die can spell one.
