In Pairdle every tile is two letters, and each box in the answer row takes one tile. After a guess, a blue tile is the right pair in the right box, a red tile is in the word but in a different box, and a grey tile is not in the word at all.

Pairdle Standard: MODERN
Twelve tiles, three boxes, solved in two guesses.

Saturday's Pairdle board had twelve tiles and three boxes, so the answer had six letters. The board words were MODERN, EVENTS, SLAVES and SPREAD. The tiles could also spell REEVES, which was not on the board. That was the trap.
The first guess was the trap REEVES, made of RE, EV and ES. All three pairs came back grey and left the board. Losing RE ruled out SPREAD. Losing EV ruled out EVENTS, and losing ES ruled out SLAVES.

That left MODERN as the only board word still standing, so the answer was clear.

The second guess was MODERN, made of MO, DE and RN. All three pairs turned blue. Two guesses.

Every word the Standard tiles could spell
The board is built from four words. Any other word the same tiles can spell is a trap: it looks right, but it was never on the board.
- EVENTS, on the board
- MODERN, the answer
- REEVES, trap word (not on the board)
- SLAVES, on the board
- SPREAD, on the board

Pairdle Pro: COERCION
Sixteen tiles, four boxes, solved in three guesses.

Saturday's Pairdle Pro board had sixteen tiles and four boxes, so the answer had eight letters. The board words were COERCION, AIRTIGHT, HUMANISM and ALLEGORY. The tiles could not spell any other word, so there were no traps.
The first guess was ALLEGORY, made of AL, LE, GO and RY. All four pairs came back grey and left the board.

On Pro a guess does not have to be a word. The second guess was AI, ER, CI and SM, a mix of pairs from the other three words. AI and SM came back grey. Losing AI ruled out AIRTIGHT, and losing SM ruled out HUMANISM.

ER turned blue in the second box and CI turned blue in the third box. Only COERCION has those pairs in those boxes, so the answer was clear.

The third guess was COERCION, made of CO, ER, CI and ON. CO and ON turned blue in the first and fourth boxes, next to the two pairs already in place. Three guesses.

Pairdle Expert: VOCATIONAL
Twenty tiles, five boxes, solved in two guesses.

Saturday's Pairdle Expert board had twenty tiles and five boxes, so the answer had ten letters. The board words were VOCATIONAL, REMARKABLE, ENDANGERED and ULTRASOUND. The tiles could also spell REASONABLE, which was not on the board. That was the trap.
The first guess was the trap REASONABLE, made of RE, AS, ON, AB and LE. RE, AS, AB and LE came back grey and left the board. Losing RE ruled out REMARKABLE, and losing AS ruled out ULTRASOUND.

ON turned red. It was in the answer, but not in the third box. ENDANGERED has no ON and VOCATIONAL does, so the answer had to be VOCATIONAL.

The second guess was VOCATIONAL, made of VO, CA, TI, ON and AL. Moving ON to the fourth box turned it blue, and the other four pairs turned blue too. Two guesses.

Every word the Expert tiles could spell
The board is built from four words. Any other word the same tiles can spell is a trap: it looks right, but it was never on the board.
- ENDANGERED, on the board
- REASONABLE, trap word (not on the board)
- REMARKABLE, on the board
- ULTRASOUND, on the board
- VOCATIONAL, the answer
