In Pairdle every tile is two letters, and each box in the answer row takes one tile. After a guess, a blue tile is the right pair in the right box, a red tile is in the word but in a different box, and a grey tile is not in the word at all.

Pairdle Standard: TOWERS
Twelve tiles, three boxes, solved in three guesses.

Sunday's Pairdle board had twelve tiles and three boxes, so the answer had six letters. The board words were TOWERS, STATUE, JAILED and ARMIES. The tiles could also spell STARED, STARES, STATED and STATES, which were not on the board. Those four were the traps.
The first guess was the trap STATES, made of ST, AT and ES. All three pairs came back grey and left the board. Losing ST ruled out STATUE, and losing ES ruled out ARMIES.

That left two board words, JAILED and TOWERS. Nothing on the board said which one it was.

The second guess was JAILED, made of JA, IL and ED. All three pairs came back grey and left the board, so the answer had to be TOWERS.

The third guess was TOWERS, made of TO, WE and RS. All three pairs turned blue. Three guesses.

Every word the Standard tiles could spell
The board is built from four words. Any other word the same tiles can spell is a trap: it looks right, but it was never on the board.
- ARMIES, on the board
- JAILED, on the board
- STARED, trap word (not on the board)
- STARES, trap word (not on the board)
- STATED, trap word (not on the board)
- STATES, trap word (not on the board)
- STATUE, on the board
- TOWERS, the answer

Pairdle Pro: THRIVING
Sixteen tiles, four boxes, solved in three guesses.

Sunday's Pairdle Pro board had sixteen tiles and four boxes, so the answer had eight letters. The board words were THRIVING, BASEMENT, DISTRACT and CREATION. The tiles could also spell CREATING, DISTRICT, SEDIMENT and STRIVING, which were not on the board. Those four were the traps.
The first guess was the trap SEDIMENT, made of SE, DI, ME and NT. All four pairs came back grey and left the board. Losing SE, ME and NT ruled out BASEMENT, and losing DI ruled out DISTRACT.

That left two board words, CREATION and THRIVING.

The second guess was the trap CREATING, made of CR, EA, TI and NG. CR, EA and TI came back grey and left the board. Losing them ruled out CREATION.

NG turned blue in the fourth box. THRIVING ends in NG, so the answer was clear.
The third guess was THRIVING, made of TH, RI, VI and NG. TH, RI and VI turned blue in the first three boxes, next to the pair already in place. Three guesses.

Pairdle Expert: SELECTIONS
Twenty tiles, five boxes, solved in two guesses.

Sunday's Pairdle Expert board had twenty tiles and five boxes, so the answer had ten letters. The board words were SELECTIONS, TREMENDOUS, SOUNDTRACK and APPLICANTS. The tiles could not spell any other word, so there were no traps.
On Expert a guess does not have to be a word. The first guess was TR, PL, CT, DO and NS, a mix of pairs from all four words. TR, PL and DO came back grey and left the board. Losing TR and DO ruled out TREMENDOUS, and losing PL ruled out APPLICANTS.

CT turned blue in the third box and NS turned blue in the fifth box. SOUNDTRACK has neither pair. Only SELECTIONS has CT in the middle and NS at the end, so the answer was clear.

The second guess was SELECTIONS, made of SE, LE, CT, IO and NS. SE, LE and IO turned blue in the first, second and fourth boxes, next to the two pairs already in place. Two guesses.
