In Pairdle every tile is two letters, and each box in the answer row takes one tile. After a guess, a blue tile is the right pair in the right box, a red tile is in the word but in a different box, and a grey tile is not in the word at all.

Pairdle Standard: SLATER
Twelve tiles, three boxes, solved in two guesses.

Wednesday's Pairdle board had twelve tiles and three boxes, so the answer had six letters. The board words were SLATER, UTOPIA, ACCESS and SENSED. The tiles could also spell SEATED and SLATED, which were not on the board. Those two were the traps.
The first guess was the trap SEATED, made of SE, AT and ED. SE and ED came back grey and left the board. Losing ED also ruled out SLATED, and losing SE ruled out SENSED.

AT turned blue in the middle box. UTOPIA and ACCESS have no AT, so the answer had to be SLATER.

The second guess was SLATER, made of SL, AT and ER. SL and ER turned blue on each side of AT, which was already in place. Two guesses.

Every word the Standard tiles could spell
The board is built from four words. Any other word the same tiles can spell is a trap: it looks right, but it was never on the board.
- ACCESS, on the board
- SEATED, trap word (not on the board)
- SENSED, on the board
- SLATED, trap word (not on the board)
- SLATER, the answer
- UTOPIA, on the board

Pairdle Pro: BUILDING
Sixteen tiles, four boxes, solved in three guesses.

Wednesday's Pairdle Pro board had sixteen tiles and four boxes, so the answer had eight letters. The board words were BUILDING, ANALYSES, ADVOCACY and URGENTLY. The tiles could also spell GENTILES, which was not on the board. That was the trap.
The first guess was the trap GENTILES, made of GE, NT, IL and ES. GE, NT and ES came back grey and left the board. Losing GE and NT also ruled out URGENTLY.

IL turned red. It was in the answer, but not in the third box. Of the words left, only BUILDING has IL, so the answer was already clear.

On Pro a guess does not have to be a word. The second guess was AN, IL, DI and NG, with IL moved to the second box. AN came back grey. IL, DI and NG all turned blue.

The third guess was BUILDING, made of BU, IL, DI and NG. BU turned blue in the first box, next to the three pairs already in place. Three guesses.

Every word the Pro tiles could spell
The board is built from four words. Any other word the same tiles can spell is a trap: it looks right, but it was never on the board.
- ADVOCACY, on the board
- ANALYSES, on the board
- BUILDING, the answer
- GENTILES, trap word (not on the board)
- URGENTLY, on the board

Pairdle Expert: SUSTENANCE
Twenty tiles, five boxes, solved in two guesses.

Wednesday's Pairdle Expert board had twenty tiles and five boxes, so the answer had ten letters. The board words were SUSTENANCE, FILMMAKING, HUMILIATED and CHILDBIRTH. The tiles could not spell any other word, so there were no traps.
On Expert a guess does not have to be a word. The first guess was ST, SU, AN, EN and CE in that order. CE turned blue in the last box.

ST, SU, AN and EN all turned red. Every one of them was in the answer, but in the wrong box. Only SUSTENANCE uses all five of these pairs.

The second guess was SUSTENANCE, made of SU, ST, EN, AN and CE. Swapping the first two pairs and the middle two pairs turned all four blue, next to CE, which was already in place. Two guesses.

Shout-outs to the one-guess winners are in the video.
