In Pairdle every tile is two letters, and each box in the answer row takes one tile. After a guess, a blue tile is the right pair in the right box, a red tile is in the word but in a different box, and a grey tile is not in the word at all.

Pairdle Standard: SCORES
Twelve tiles, three boxes, solved in two guesses.

Sunday's Pairdle board had twelve tiles and three boxes, so the answer had six letters. The board words were SCORES, NORDIC, SMOKED and URGING. The tiles could also spell EDGING, SCORED and SMOKES, which were not on the board. Those were the traps.
The first guess was the trap SMOKES, made of SM, OK and ES. SM and OK came back grey and left the board. That ruled out SMOKED, which needs both of them. ES turned blue, so the answer ends in ES.

NORDIC and URGING do not end in ES, so SCORES was the only board word left that fit.

The second guess was SCORES. SC and OR turned blue next to the ES that was already in place. Two guesses.

Every word the Standard tiles could spell
The board is built from four words. Any other word the same tiles can spell is a trap: it looks right, but it was never on the board.
- EDGING, trap word (not on the board)
- NORDIC, on the board
- SCORED, trap word (not on the board)
- SCORES, the answer
- SMOKED, on the board
- SMOKES, trap word (not on the board)
- URGING, on the board

Pairdle Pro: CLERICAL
Sixteen tiles, four boxes, solved in two guesses.

Sunday's Pairdle Pro board had sixteen tiles and four boxes, so the answer had eight letters. The board words were CLERICAL, DARKNESS, HIJACKED and ENCODING. The tiles could also spell DARKENED and ENDANGER, which were not on the board. Those were the traps.
The first guess was the trap ENDANGER, made of EN, DA, NG and ER. EN, DA and NG came back grey and left the board. ER turned red, which means it is in the answer but in a different box.

Losing DA ruled out DARKNESS. Losing EN and NG ruled out ENCODING. Of the board words left, only CLERICAL has ER, and it sits in the second box.

The second guess was CLERICAL, made of CL, ER, IC and AL. All four pairs turned blue. Two guesses.

Every word the Pro tiles could spell
The board is built from four words. Any other word the same tiles can spell is a trap: it looks right, but it was never on the board.
- CLERICAL, the answer
- DARKENED, trap word (not on the board)
- DARKNESS, on the board
- ENCODING, on the board
- ENDANGER, trap word (not on the board)
- HIJACKED, on the board

Pairdle Expert: PROPONENTS
Twenty tiles, five boxes, solved in three guesses.

Sunday's Pairdle Expert board had twenty tiles and five boxes, so the answer had ten letters. The board words were PROPONENTS, NUTRITIOUS, SUBSCRIBER and ASSOCIATES. The tiles could spell those four words and no others, so there were no traps.
The first guess was ASSOCIATES, made of AS, SO, CI, AT and ES. All five pairs came back grey and left the board.

The second guess was not a word. It was the pairs PR, ON, OP, US and TS, in that order. PR and TS turned blue in the first and last boxes. ON and OP turned red, so both are in the answer but in other boxes. US came back grey and left the board. Losing US also ruled out NUTRITIOUS.

That fits PROPONENTS, which starts with PR and ends with TS. Its middle runs OP, ON, EN, so OP and ON just had to swap places.

The third guess was PROPONENTS, made of PR, OP, ON, EN and TS. All five pairs turned blue. Three guesses.

Shout-outs to the one-guess winners are in the video.
