All Pairdle recaps

Pairdle recap for Tuesday, October 20, 2026

The answers were UPSIDE (Standard), ALLOCATE (Pro), MECHANISMS (Expert). Below is each board as it was dealt, every guess with its colours, and the words the tiles could spell that were not on the board.

In Pairdle every tile is two letters, and each box in the answer row takes one tile. After a guess, a blue tile is the right pair in the right box, a red tile is in the word but in a different box, and a grey tile is not in the word at all.

Pairdle Standard: UPSIDE

Twelve tiles, three boxes, solved in three guesses.

The Pairdle Standard board for October 20, 2026 before any guess: three empty answer boxes above twelve letter tiles, FO, ID, TA, SI, ES, ST, ED, CA, NN, RB, DE, UP.

Tuesday's Pairdle board had twelve tiles and three boxes, so the answer had six letters. The board words were UPSIDE, TASTES, CANNED and FORBID. The tiles could also spell STUPID, TANNED and TASTED, which were not on the board. Those were the traps.

The first guess was the trap TANNED. TA, NN and ED all came back grey and left the board. TASTES and TASTED both start with TA, so they were out. CANNED needs NN, so it was out too. That left UPSIDE and FORBID, plus the trap STUPID.

Guess 1, TANNED: TA grey, NN grey, ED grey.

The second guess was the trap STUPID. ST came back grey. ID came back grey too, and FORBID ends in ID, so FORBID was out. UP turned red. That means UP is in the answer, but not in the second box.

Guess 2, STUPID: ST grey, UP red, ID grey.

Only UPSIDE has UP, and it sits in the first box. The third guess was UPSIDE. UP, SI and DE all turned blue. Three guesses.

Guess 3, UPSIDE: every box blue, UP, SI, DE. That solved it.
All three Pairdle Standard guesses for October 20, 2026 stacked in order, TANNED, then STUPID, then UPSIDE, with the last row all blue.

Every word the Standard tiles could spell

The board is built from four words. Any other word the same tiles can spell is a trap: it looks right, but it was never on the board.

  • CANNED, on the board
  • FORBID, on the board
  • STUPID, trap word (not on the board)
  • TANNED, trap word (not on the board)
  • TASTED, trap word (not on the board)
  • TASTES, on the board
  • UPSIDE, the answer

Pairdle Pro: ALLOCATE

Sixteen tiles, four boxes, solved in two guesses.

The Pairdle Pro board for October 20, 2026 before any guess: four empty answer boxes above sixteen letter tiles, LO, RI, CT, TO, ER, CA, DA, NG, MO, LY, EN, SQ, UI, ST, TE, AL.

Tuesday's Pairdle Pro board had sixteen tiles and four boxes, so the answer had eight letters. The board words were ALLOCATE, STRICTLY, MOSQUITO and ENDANGER. The tiles could also spell ALTERING, CATERING, ENTERING and STRICTER, which were not on the board. Those were the traps.

The first guess was the trap ALTERING. AL turned blue in the first box. TE turned red. That means TE is in the answer, but not in the second box. RI and NG came back grey and left the board.

Guess 1, ALTERING: AL blue, TE red, RI grey, NG grey.

STRICTLY needs RI, so it was out. ENDANGER needs NG, so it was out too. MOSQUITO does not start with AL. Only ALLOCATE starts with AL and has TE, and its TE sits in the last box.

Guess 2, ALLOCATE: every box blue, AL, LO, CA, TE. That solved it.

The second guess was ALLOCATE. AL stayed in place, and LO, CA and TE all turned blue. Two guesses.

Both Pairdle Pro guesses for October 20, 2026 stacked in order, ALTERING, then ALLOCATE, with the last row all blue.

Every word the Pro tiles could spell

  • ENDANGER, on the board
  • ENTERING, trap word (not on the board)

Pairdle Expert: MECHANISMS

Twenty tiles, five boxes, solved in two guesses.

The Pairdle Expert board for October 20, 2026 before any guess: five empty answer boxes above twenty letter tiles, CI, LY, AL, SH, MS, AN, IP, ME, HE, AD, TH, DE, CH, VE, IS, ER, RE, SI, CA, LE.

Tuesday's Pairdle Expert board had twenty tiles and five boxes, so the answer had ten letters. The board words were MECHANISMS, HEALTHCARE, LEADERSHIP and DECISIVELY. The tiles could also spell DEALERSHIP and READERSHIP, which were not on the board. Those were the traps. LEADERSHIP and both traps end in SH and IP.

The first guess was not a word. ME came from MECHANISMS and went in the first box, where it turned blue. AL and CA came from HEALTHCARE, SI came from DECISIVELY and SH came from LEADERSHIP. All four came back grey and left the board.

Guess 1, the pairs ME, AL, SI, SH, CA: ME blue, AL grey, SI grey, SH grey, CA grey.

HEALTHCARE needs AL and CA, so it was out. DECISIVELY needs SI, so it was out too. LEADERSHIP, DEALERSHIP and READERSHIP all need SH, so all three were out. Only MECHANISMS starts with ME.

Guess 2, MECHANISMS: every box blue, ME, CH, AN, IS, MS. That solved it.

The second guess was MECHANISMS. ME stayed in place, and CH, AN, IS and MS all turned blue. Two guesses.

Both Pairdle Expert guesses for October 20, 2026 stacked in order, the pairs ME, AL, SI, SH, CA, then MECHANISMS, with the last row all blue.

Every word the Expert tiles could spell

The board is built from four words. Any other word the same tiles can spell is a trap: it looks right, but it was never on the board.

  • DEALERSHIP, trap word (not on the board)
  • DECISIVELY, on the board
  • HEALTHCARE, on the board
  • LEADERSHIP, on the board
  • MECHANISMS, the answer
  • READERSHIP, trap word (not on the board)
