In Pairdle every tile is two letters, and each box in the answer row takes one tile. After a guess, a blue tile is the right pair in the right box, a red tile is in the word but in a different box, and a grey tile is not in the word at all.

Pairdle Standard: DEPUTY
Twelve tiles, three boxes, solved in three guesses.

Wednesday's Pairdle board had twelve tiles and three boxes, so the answer had six letters. The board words were DEPUTY, STATES, INTAKE and SADDLE. The tiles could also spell ATTAIN, PUDDLE and TASTES, which were not on the board. Those three were traps.
The first guess was the trap TASTES. TA, ST and ES all came back grey and left the board. Losing ST and ES ruled out STATES. Losing TA ruled out INTAKE and the trap ATTAIN. That left DEPUTY and SADDLE on the board, plus the trap PUDDLE.

The second guess was the trap PUDDLE. PU turned red, so PU is in the answer but not in the first box. DD and LE came back grey and left the board. SADDLE needs both of them, so it was out. DEPUTY was the only word left with PU, and it has PU in the second box.

The third guess was DEPUTY. DE, PU and TY all turned blue. Three guesses.

Every word the Standard tiles could spell
The board is built from four words. Any other word the same tiles can spell is a trap: it looks right, but it was never on the board.
- ATTAIN, trap word (not on the board)
- DEPUTY, the answer
- INTAKE, on the board
- PUDDLE, trap word (not on the board)
- SADDLE, on the board
- STATES, on the board
- TASTES, trap word (not on the board)

Pairdle Pro: ENDANGER
Sixteen tiles, four boxes, solved in three guesses.

Wednesday's Pairdle Pro board had sixteen tiles and four boxes, so the answer had eight letters. The board words were ENDANGER, MILITANT, FEATHERS and BALANCES. The tiles could not spell any other word, so there were no traps. The four words share no pairs, so a wrong board word only rules out itself.
The first guess was the board word FEATHERS. FE, AT, HE and RS all came back grey and left the board. That ruled out FEATHERS and nothing else.

The second guess was not a word. It was four pairs picked to test the three words that were left: MI, LA, NG and NT. MI, LA and NT came back grey. That knocked out MILITANT, which needs MI and NT, and BALANCES, which needs LA. NG turned blue in the third box. Only ENDANGER has NG, and it has it in the third box.

The third guess was ENDANGER. EN, DA, NG and ER all turned blue. Three guesses.

Pairdle Expert: PRECEDENCE
Twenty tiles, five boxes, solved in two guesses.

Wednesday's Pairdle Expert board had twenty tiles and five boxes, so the answer had ten letters. The board words were PRECEDENCE, GENEROUSLY, RECREATION and ILLUMINATE. The tiles could not spell any other word, so there were no traps. The four words share no pairs, so one pair in the right box is enough to point to one word.
The first guess was not a word. It used one pair from each board word, each in the box it holds in its own word: GE from GENEROUSLY in the first box, CR from RECREATION in the second, ED from PRECEDENCE in the third, and NA and TE from ILLUMINATE in the fourth and fifth. GE, CR, NA and TE came back grey and left the board. That ruled out GENEROUSLY, RECREATION and ILLUMINATE. ED turned blue in the third box. Only PRECEDENCE has ED, so it had to be the answer.

The second guess was PRECEDENCE. PR, EC, EN and CE joined ED, and all five boxes were blue. Two guesses.
