In Pairdle every tile is two letters, and each box in the answer row takes one tile. After a guess, a blue tile is the right pair in the right box, a red tile is in the word but in a different box, and a grey tile is not in the word at all.

Pairdle Standard: LEGION
Twelve tiles, three boxes, solved in two guesses.

Wednesday's Pairdle board had twelve tiles and three boxes, so the answer had six letters. The board words were CRUISE, GOTTEN, LAUREL and LEGION. The tiles could also spell LAGOON and SETTLE, which were not on the board. Both were traps.
The first guess was the trap LAGOON. LA and GO came back grey, and those two tiles left the board. That ruled out LAUREL, which needs LA, and GOTTEN, which needs GO.

ON turned blue, so ON sits in the last box. CRUISE has no ON at all. LEGION ends in ON, so it was the only word left.

The second guess was LEGION. LE and GI turned blue next to the ON that was already in place. Two guesses.

Every word the Standard tiles could spell
The board is built from four words. Any other word the same tiles can spell is a trap: it looks right, but it was never on the board.
- CRUISE, on the board
- GOTTEN, on the board
- LAGOON, trap word (not on the board)
- LAUREL, on the board
- LEGION, the answer
- SETTLE, trap word (not on the board)

Pairdle Pro: LEUKEMIA
Sixteen tiles, four boxes, solved in three guesses.

Wednesday's Pairdle Pro board had sixteen tiles and four boxes, so the answer had eight letters. The board words were ATTACKER, LEUKEMIA, STUDENTS and SURGEONS. The tiles could not spell any other word, so there were no traps.
With no trap to try, the first guess was four pairs that do not make a word: ST, UD, AT and TA. All four came back grey and left the board. That ruled out STUDENTS, which needs ST and UD, and ATTACKER, which needs AT and TA. Only LEUKEMIA and SURGEONS were left.

The second guess was another set of pairs: SU, RG, LE and IA. SU and RG came back grey, which ruled out SURGEONS. LE turned red, so LE is in the answer but in a different box. IA turned blue, so IA sits in the last box.

LEUKEMIA starts with LE and ends with IA. The third guess was LEUKEMIA. LE, UK and EM turned blue next to the IA that was already in place. Three guesses.

Pairdle Expert: THREATENED
Twenty tiles, five boxes, solved in two guesses.

Wednesday's Pairdle Expert board had twenty tiles and five boxes, so the answer had ten letters. The board words were COMPARISON, SPECTATORS, SUBSTITUTE and THREATENED. The tiles could also spell SUBSECTION and TEMPTATION, which were not on the board. Both were traps.
The first guess was the trap TEMPTATION. TE, MP, TA, TI and ON all came back grey, and those five tiles left the board. That ruled out three words at once. COMPARISON needs MP and ON, SUBSTITUTE needs TI and TE, and SPECTATORS needs TA.

THREATENED was the only word left. The second guess was THREATENED. TH, RE, AT, EN and ED all turned blue. Two guesses.

The board is built from four words. Any other word the same tiles can spell is a trap: it looks right, but it was never on the board.
- COMPARISON, on the board
- SPECTATORS, on the board
- SUBSECTION, trap word (not on the board)
- SUBSTITUTE, on the board
- TEMPTATION, trap word (not on the board)
- THREATENED, the answer
