In Pairdle every tile is two letters, and each box in the answer row takes one tile. After a guess, a blue tile is the right pair in the right box, a red tile is in the word but in a different box, and a grey tile is not in the word at all.

Pairdle Standard: COMMIT
Twelve tiles, three boxes, solved in three guesses.

Friday's Pairdle board had twelve tiles and three boxes, so the answer had six letters. The tiles spelled four words: CEASES, COMMIT, SPOKEN and STRESS. They could also spell ENCORE, RECESS, SPENCE and STOKES, and those four were the traps. STOKES is a good example. It takes ST from STRESS, OK from SPOKEN and ES from CEASES.
The first guess was STOKES. ST, OK and ES all came back grey, so those three tiles left the board. That one guess knocked out STRESS, SPOKEN and CEASES. Four words could still be made: COMMIT, ENCORE, RECESS and SPENCE.

The second guess was ENCORE. EN and RE came back grey, which also ruled out RECESS and SPENCE. CO turned red. So CO was in the answer, just not in the middle box.

Only COMMIT was left, and it starts with CO. CO, MM and IT went in and all three turned blue. Three guesses.

Every word the Standard tiles could spell
The board is built from four words. Any other word the same tiles can spell is a trap: it looks right, but it was never on the board.
- CEASES, on the board
- COMMIT, the answer
- ENCORE, trap word (not on the board)
- RECESS, trap word (not on the board)
- SPENCE, trap word (not on the board)
- SPOKEN, on the board
- STOKES, trap word (not on the board)
- STRESS, on the board

Pairdle Pro: UNSPOKEN
Sixteen tiles, four boxes, solved in two guesses.

The Pro board had sixteen tiles and four boxes, so the answer had eight letters. The tiles spelled four words: BELIEVER, GUNPOINT, UNSPOKEN and VIOLATED. They could also spell BELIEVED and SPLINTER, and those two were the traps. BELIEVED is BELIEVER with the ED tile from VIOLATED in the last box. SPLINTER takes SP from UNSPOKEN, NT from GUNPOINT and ER from BELIEVER.
The first guess was SPLINTER. SP turned red. LI, NT and ER came back grey. With LI gone, BELIEVER and BELIEVED could no longer be made, and losing NT ruled out GUNPOINT.

That left UNSPOKEN and VIOLATED. The red told us SP was in the answer but not in the first box, and VIOLATED has no SP tile. UN, SP, OK and EN spell UNSPOKEN, and all four turned blue. Two guesses.

- BELIEVED, trap word (not on the board)
- BELIEVER, on the board

- UNSPOKEN, the answer
- VIOLATED, on the board

Pairdle Expert: UBIQUITOUS
Twenty tiles, five boxes, solved in two guesses.

The Expert board had twenty tiles and five boxes, so the answer had ten letters. The tiles spelled four words: MEMBERSHIP, OFTENTIMES, PROPAGANDA and UBIQUITOUS. No other word could be made from them, so there was no trap on this board.
The first guess was PROPAGANDA. PR, OP, AG, AN and DA all came back grey, so PROPAGANDA was out and its five tiles left the board.

That left MEMBERSHIP, OFTENTIMES and UBIQUITOUS. None of them share a tile, so nothing on the board pointed to one over the others. The second guess was UBIQUITOUS. UB, IQ, UI, TO and US went in, and all five turned blue. Two guesses.
