In Pairdle every tile is two letters, and each box in the answer row takes one tile. After a guess, a blue tile is the right pair in the right box, a red tile is in the word but in a different box, and a grey tile is not in the word at all.

Pairdle Standard: FIANCE
Twelve tiles, three boxes, solved in two guesses.

Saturday's Pairdle board had twelve tiles and three boxes, so the answer had six letters. The tiles spelled four words: FIANCE, MAGNET, SAFEST and SPIKED. They could also spell STANCE, and that was the trap. STANCE takes ST from SAFEST, then AN and CE from FIANCE, so it matches the answer in its last two boxes.
The first guess was STANCE. ST came back grey, so that tile left the board and SAFEST could no longer be made. AN and CE both turned blue. So the answer ended in AN and CE, in those exact boxes.

MAGNET and SPIKED use neither of those tiles, so only FIANCE was left. FI went in the first box and turned blue, next to the two tiles already in place. Two guesses.

Every word the Standard tiles could spell
The board is built from four words. Any other word the same tiles can spell is a trap: it looks right, but it was never on the board.
- FIANCE, the answer
- MAGNET, on the board
- SAFEST, on the board
- SPIKED, on the board
- STANCE, trap word (not on the board)

Pairdle Pro: RATIFIED
Sixteen tiles, four boxes, solved in three guesses.

The Pro board had sixteen tiles and four boxes, so the answer had eight letters. The tiles spelled four words: OVERFLOW, PASSIONS, RATIFIED and SUICIDES. They could also spell PASSOVER, and that was the trap. PASSOVER takes PA and SS from PASSIONS, then OV and ER from OVERFLOW.
The first guess was PASSOVER. PA, SS, OV and ER all came back grey, and those four tiles left the board. Losing PA and SS ruled out PASSIONS. Losing OV and ER ruled out OVERFLOW.

That left RATIFIED and SUICIDES, and they share no tile, so the board gave no hint about which one it was. The second guess was SUICIDES. SU, IC, ID and ES all came back grey as well.

Only RATIFIED was left. RA, TI, FI and ED went in, and all four turned blue. Three guesses.

- OVERFLOW, on the board
- PASSIONS, on the board
- PASSOVER, trap word (not on the board)
- RATIFIED, the answer
- SUICIDES, on the board

Pairdle Expert: FRAMEWORKS
Twenty tiles, five boxes, solved in two guesses.

The Expert board had twenty tiles and five boxes, so the answer had ten letters. The tiles spelled four words: FLASHLIGHT, FRAMEWORKS, PROSPEROUS and REHEARSALS. No other word could be made from them, so this board had no trap.
With no trap to test, the first guess was not a word. It took one pair from each board word and put it in the box it holds in that word. FL from FLASHLIGHT went in the first box, AM from FRAMEWORKS in the second, PE from PROSPEROUS in the third, SA from REHEARSALS in the fourth and KS from FRAMEWORKS in the fifth.

FL, PE and SA came back grey. AM and KS both turned blue. Those two tiles both belong to FRAMEWORKS, and the three greys ruled out FLASHLIGHT, PROSPEROUS and REHEARSALS in one guess.

The second guess was FRAMEWORKS. FR, EW and OR went in around the two tiles already in place, and they turned blue too. Two guesses.
