In Pairdle every tile is two letters, and each box in the answer row takes one tile. After a guess, a blue tile is the right pair in the right box, a red tile is in the word but in a different box, and a grey tile is not in the word at all.

Pairdle Standard: BAMBOO
Twelve tiles, three boxes, solved in three guesses.

Friday's Pairdle board had twelve tiles and three boxes, so the answer had six letters. The board words were BAMBOO, DRAWER, REFUND and SLOPPY. The tiles could also spell RENDER, which was not on the board. It was a trap.
The first guess was the trap RENDER. RE, ND and ER all came back grey, and those three tiles left the board. That ruled out REFUND, which needs RE and ND, and DRAWER, which needs ER. Only BAMBOO and SLOPPY were left.

The second guess was SLOPPY. SL, OP and PY all came back grey, and those tiles left the board too. That ruled out SLOPPY.

BAMBOO was the only word left. It is spelled BA, MB and OO. The third guess was BAMBOO, and all three pairs turned blue. Three guesses.

Every word the Standard tiles could spell
The board is built from four words. Any other word the same tiles can spell is a trap: it looks right, but it was never on the board.
- BAMBOO, the answer
- DRAWER, on the board
- REFUND, on the board
- RENDER, trap word (not on the board)
- SLOPPY, on the board

Pairdle Pro: DOORSTEP
Sixteen tiles, four boxes, solved in three guesses.

Friday's Pairdle Pro board had sixteen tiles and four boxes, so the answer had eight letters. The board words were DOORSTEP, ROUNDING, SOYBEANS and SYMPATHY. The tiles could also spell SOUNDING, which was not on the board. It was a trap, one letter away from ROUNDING.
The first guess was the trap SOUNDING. SO, UN, DI and NG all came back grey, and those four tiles left the board. That ruled out ROUNDING, which needs UN, DI and NG, and SOYBEANS, which needs SO. Only DOORSTEP and SYMPATHY were left.

The second guess was four pairs that do not make a word: ST, DO, MP and EP. MP came back grey, which ruled out SYMPATHY. ST and DO turned red, so both are in the answer but in different boxes. EP turned blue, so EP sits in the last box.

DOORSTEP starts with DO, has ST in the third box and ends with EP. The third guess was DOORSTEP. DO, OR and ST turned blue next to the EP that was already in place. Three guesses.

- ROUNDING, on the board
- SOUNDING, trap word (not on the board)
- SOYBEANS, on the board
- SYMPATHY, on the board

Pairdle Expert: ECONOMICAL
Twenty tiles, five boxes, solved in two guesses.

Friday's Pairdle Expert board had twenty tiles and five boxes, so the answer had ten letters. The board words were COMPETENCE, ECONOMICAL, METABOLISM and UNDENIABLE. The tiles could not spell any other word, so there were no traps.
With no trap to try, the first guess took a pair from each word plus one more: EC, ME, UN, CO and AL. It was not a word. ME, UN and CO came back grey and left the board. That ruled out METABOLISM, which needs ME, UNDENIABLE, which needs UN, and COMPETENCE, which needs CO. EC and AL turned blue, so EC sits in the first box and AL sits in the last box.

ECONOMICAL was the only word left, and it starts with EC and ends with AL. The second guess was ECONOMICAL. ON, OM and IC turned blue next to the EC and AL that were already in place. Two guesses.
