In Pairdle every tile is two letters, and each box in the answer row takes one tile. After a guess, a blue tile is the right pair in the right box, a red tile is in the word but in a different box, and a grey tile is not in the word at all.

Pairdle Standard: BOLTED
Twelve tiles, three boxes, solved in two guesses.

Monday's Pairdle board had twelve tiles and three boxes, so the answer had six letters. The board words were BOLTED, CHOOSE, LATTER and RETURN. The tiles could also spell REBORN, TURNED and TURNER, and none of those three were on the board. They were traps, built from tiles that belong to other words.
The first guess was the trap TURNED. TU and RN came back grey, and those two tiles left the board. That ruled out RETURN, which needs both of them. The ED tile turned blue, so the answer had to end in ED.

Of the three words left, CHOOSE ends in SE and LATTER ends in ER. Only BOLTED ends in ED. The second guess was BOLTED, and BO and LT turned blue next to the ED that was already in place. Two guesses.

Every word the Standard tiles could spell
The board is built from four words. Any other word the same tiles can spell is a trap: it looks right, but it was never on the board.
- BOLTED, the answer
- CHOOSE, on the board
- LATTER, on the board
- REBORN, trap word (not on the board)
- RETURN, on the board
- TURNED, trap word (not on the board)
- TURNER, trap word (not on the board)

Pairdle Pro: ATTACHED
Sixteen tiles, four boxes, solved in three guesses.

Monday's Pairdle Pro board had sixteen tiles and four boxes, so the answer had eight letters. The board words were ATTACHED, FONDNESS, LIFETIME and PUMPKINS. The tiles could also spell KINDNESS and TIMELINE, which were not on the board. Both were traps.
The first guess was the trap TIMELINE. TI, ME, LI and NE all came back grey, and all four tiles left the board. That one guess ruled out three words. LIFETIME needs TI, ME and LI. FONDNESS and KINDNESS both need NE.

That left PUMPKINS and ATTACHED, and no tile on the board could tell them apart. The second guess was PUMPKINS. PU, MP, KI and NS all came back grey, so it was the wrong pick.

The third guess was ATTACHED. AT, TA, CH and ED all turned blue. Three guesses.

Every word the Pro tiles could spell
The board is built from four words. Any other word the same tiles can spell is a trap: it looks right, but it was never on the board.
- ATTACHED, the answer
- FONDNESS, on the board
- KINDNESS, trap word (not on the board)
- LIFETIME, on the board
- PUMPKINS, on the board
- TIMELINE, trap word (not on the board)

Pairdle Expert: COMPULSIVE
Twenty tiles, five boxes, solved in two guesses.

Monday's Pairdle Expert board had twenty tiles and five boxes, so the answer had ten letters. The tiles spelled four words: COMPULSIVE, GROUNDWORK, INELIGIBLE and UNIQUENESS. No other word could be made from them, so there was no trap.
A whole word as a first guess only tests one word. So the first guess mixed pairs from three of them: GR and OU from GROUNDWORK, then MP and UL from COMPULSIVE, then SS from UNIQUENESS. It was not a real word, which is allowed on Expert.

GR, OU and SS came back grey, and those three tiles left the board. That ruled out GROUNDWORK and UNIQUENESS. MP and UL both turned red, which means they are in the answer but in a different box. Each one sat one box to the right of where it belongs.

INELIGIBLE has neither MP nor UL, so COMPULSIVE was the only word left. The second guess was COMPULSIVE. CO, MP, UL, SI and VE all turned blue. Two guesses.
